Dublin rider Fintan Lawlor talks about how he got involved with Deliveroo and why he loves working with us!

Tell us a bit about yourself: How old are you? Where are you from?

I’m 23, I’m from Wexford and I’m a music graduate.

What do you do when you’re not riding for Deliveroo?

I’m in a couple of bands, so I gig maybe three-four times a month. That’s kind of what Deliveroo is great for – that few bob extra on the side.

I’m a guitarist, so I do kind of modern guitar, live acoustic, singing and playing and I play electric guitar as well. I play a bit of everything – funk, soul, rock – but if you were to put me down as one thing it would be a rock’n’roll guitar player.

How long have you been a Deliveroo rider?

About a year

What do you ride?

I’m on a cargo bike. I think in the Netherlands they call them Bakfiets. If you can imagine it’s like a small wheel at the back and then a big box and a wheel just in front of it.

Deliveroo provide me with one of them.

What made you want to work for Deliveroo?

I think it was just because I was looking for extra hours and extra money. I’ve worked in other jobs before, but Deliveroo is nifty because the hours are very flexible.

You can set it up around you and your lifestyle. It’s very easy if you need to miss a shift to fill it in somewhere else, so it was really handy from my point of view because you can just go out and work whenever you want.

What’s the best thing about being a Deliveroo rider?

First of all, I would say that it’s that the hours are really easy to throw around and you feel like you’re not nailed down to anything even while you’re working.

It’s great to be outside every day, as well, and to see a lot of Dublin. You get to know a lot more people and get to know Dublin very well. You know your way around better, you know the streets better. You pick up that and that’s a skill in a way, you know where everything is.

I would have used GPS about 90% of the time when I started off, but now it’s 90% “Oh, I know where that is!”
